My Summer TBR

Today's TTT is bookish wishlists, but I don't need any new books right now, so I'll share my summer tbr list instead, especially since I will probably be too busy to post after I start teaching my Superheroes class next week. Some of the books are on the list for the class, which I got switched to after my original class was canceled so I didn't get to pick the books. Comics and graphic novels aren't my specialty, but I'm looking forward to learning more about them.

Happy Top Ten Tuesday!

Summer TBR List

1. Herobear and the Kid: The Inheritance by Mike Kunkel--graphic novel for class

2. Nimona by Noelle Stevenson--graphic novel for class, by the creator of (Netflix's) She-Ra!

3. Yerba Buena by Nina LaCour--So excited that she has a new book out!

4. The Chancellor: The Remarkable Odyssey of Angela Merkel by Kati Marton--Book club read. I'm looking forward to learning more about Merkel!

5. Morningside Heights by Joshua Henkin--Other book club read. Hopefully this isn't too sad--I've mostly stopped reading these family drama type books on my own.

6. Meant to Be Mine by Hannah Orenstein--one of my book clubs read her matchmaking book a few years ago; this one sounds interesting and more Jewish content!

7. Iron Widow by Xiran Jay Zhao--interesting concept reminds me of the Guild navigators in Dune and of course strong female protag is up my alley.

8. Legends & Lattes: A Novel of High Fantasy and Low Stakes by Travis Baldree--cozy fiction about an orc barbarian, count me in.

I was just about to join a library waitlist for Legends and Lattes. It sounds so good!

Iron Widow is definitely on my TBR list - sounds intriguing but so many other books also clamouring to be read!
This is my list this week, and a link to the wishlist!

Book Review: The Speed of Clouds by Miriam Seidel

Book Review: The Speed of Clouds by Miriam Seidel *To Be Released from New Door Books on April 10, 2018* Mindy Vogel is haunted by the future. In frequent daydreams, she toggles between her real, wheelchair-bound life and the adventurous life of her fanfic alter ego, SkyLog officer Kat Wanderer. She's haunted by all that Kat can do which she cannot---belong to an organization of comrades, walk, and fall in love---yet. Because at twenty-four, Mindy's future is very much ahead of her, wheelchair notwithstanding. Through Mindy's "SkyLog" fanzine and related emails, Seidel evokes Star Trek fandom around the turn of the millenium, but also creates a new and compelling science fictional universe, similar to what Rainbow Rowell's Fangirl  does for the Harry Potter fandom with "Simon Snow." Mindy is among the pioneers transitioning fandom from print to digital, boldly encountering like-minded individuals from the comfort of her chair behind the monito...

Books with Single-Word Titles

Happy Top Ten Tuesday over at That Artsy Reader Girl! Books with Single-Word Titles These are all my favorite books that I could think of with one-word titles. A lot of fantasy, a few nonfiction (minus subtitles) and Kindred , whether you consider it scifi or historical fiction. Also two portmanteaus using the word "bitter." I suppose it's a word that lends itself to amelioration. 1. Sweetbitter by Stephanie Danler 2. Bitterblue by Kristin Cashore 3. Fire by Kristin Cashore 4. Heartless by Marissa Meyer 5. Inheritance by Christopher Paolini 6. Meditations by Marcus Aurelius 7. Stoned by Aja Raden (has a subtitle) 8. Educated by Tara Westover 9. Fledgling by Octavia Butler 10. Kindred by Octavia Butler

The Ten Most Recent Additions to My Book Collection

Most of the books I buy these days are ebooks, or books I'm technically "renting" (I guess that's the right term?) on Kindle Unlimited. I also get a few ebooks for review, usually from LibraryThing or directly from authors. Mostly I get books from the library, but I also try to buy/preorder from my favorite authors--sometimes ebooks or sometimes an actual book if I don't have a signed copy from that author yet! Here are the most recent books I've either bought or rented (TBR would be a whole other list!). Happy Top Ten Tuesday over at That Artsy Reader Girl!
