Characters I'd Like to Go On Vacation With

With all of the mysteries and thrillers set in vacation spots, it almost seems easier to think of characters I wouldn't want to go on vacation with! I didn't finish writing this before Tuesday, but it's such a fun topic, I thought I'd go ahead and put mine out a little late. I'm excited to see what everyone else's ideas were!

Happy Top Ten Tuesday!

Characters I'd Like To Go On Vacation With

  1. The crew of The Wayfarer from The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet by Becky Chambers--would love to hang out with this diverse crew of humans, aliens, and AI, plus we could go anywhere in the universe (probably would NOT choose the small angry planet for a vacation though!)
  2. Nick, Charlie, Elle, and the rest of the crew from Heartstopper would be great vacation partners--would love to go to Paris with them, either when I was their age or if they were my age
  3. Viv from Legends & Lattes by Travis Baldree would be a fun vacation partner, and also good to have around in a pinch!
  4. Addie LaRue from the eponymous novel by V.E. Schwab--assuming I could see her, or maybe if I were invisible like her and we could see each other, she could show me how to live!

Characters I Wouldn't Want to Go On a Vacation With
  1. Anyone from Bad Summer People by Emma Rosenblum--Figurative backstabbing is guaranteed, I don't like tennis, and I might end up murdered!
  2. Emily and Chess from The Villa by Rachel Hawkins--Eek. Similar murder-y vibes. I am kind of intrigued by the Italian villa itself, but I'd pick one with less bad juju.
  3. Mallory Viridian from the Midsolar Mysteries series by Mur Lafferty--I like Mallory and I would like to visit Station Eternity, but I'd prefer to go when Mallory isn't there, based on the probability of murders occurring around her!
  4. Richard Burton and John Hanning Speke from River of the Gods by Candice Millard--This is nonfiction but not only do these dudes sound horrible, but they choose terrible vacation spots--the nineteenth century Nile delta sounds like a nightmare, from paralyzing diseases to (sometimes literally) backstabbing compatriots, no thank you.

The gang from Heartstopper would be wonderful travel companions.

Ha ha. I read a lot of mysteries and thrillers, too, and honestly, those characters just seem to attract trouble and dead bodies. I'll leave them home, thank you very much!

Happy TTT (on a Wednesday)!
Great responses, and I love that you also included characters you WOULDN'T want to travel with! I had Viv on my list this week as well. I didn't think of the Heartstopper crew, but you're totally right, they would be great travel companions!
