Books on My Spring 2022 TBR

These have gotten a lot easier since joining book clubs! I still had to look up a few more though to see what else is coming out--there've been a couple of recent and upcoming new releases that I'm very excited about but waiting until I have time to read, since the book club reads have to come first. Happy Purim and happy St. Patrick's Day to those celebrating this week!

Books on My Spring 2022 TBR

  1. The German House by Annette Hess (Book club read for April)--I know, it made me think of The Dutch House too, but this is a totally different book, about the Frankfurt trials for SS personnel involved in Auschwitz, which took place in the 1960s. I didn't know about this, and I avoid Holocaust books these days since I've already read so many, but this sounds different, so it might be interesting. It's also originally written in German, translated to English.
  2. This Time Next Year We'll Be Laughing by Jacqueline Winspear (other book club read for March)--I've already got this memoir out of the library but haven't started yet. Hope it's funny!
  3. In the Serpent's Wake by Rachel Hartman--I absolutely loved Tess of the Road, so I'm heavily anticipating an equally poignant sequel!
  4. Dreams Bigger Than Heartbreak by Charlie Jane Anders--I love everything by CJA but also highly anticipating the fun thrilling sequel to the adventure-driven YA space opera Victories Greater Than Death
  5. The Witch Collector by Charissa Weaks--my husband found this on one of my want-to-read lists and bought it for me for Valentine's Day so now I can read it!
  6. What to Miss When by Leigh Stein--one of the only books I still have left to read from the Hanukkah books my parents bought from my Hanukkah want-to-read list. 
  7. You've Been Volunteered by Laurie Gelman (Book club read for May)--the members of this book club really enjoyed her other books, so I'm looking forward to a humorous read.

Feliz Ano Nuevo!

Speaking of cultures and society, I leave for Spain on January 9. Instead of continuing as a book blog with a specific goal for number of books to read in a year, Space Station Mir will become a chronicle for my adventures in Spain. Expect a post for each new place that I visit, with pictures! I also plan to continue reviewing books, however I will not make a set goal for number of books to read this year. I do pledge myself to read at least one book in Spanish that was not assigned for a class. In terms of my goals for 2009, I was not diligent enough in keeping track of them. Looking back, I've fulfilled some of them and not others. The greatest trend in my reading this year, which marks a huge deviation for me, is that I've read more non-fiction than I think I've read any other year in my life. I've finally developed the ability to sustain interest in non-fiction other than biographies. For a while, biographies were the only non-fiction I ever read, with the exception

Most Recent Books I Did Not Finish

 I feel like I've been DNFing a fair amount lately, mostly with review books. I feel obligated to read review books longer than I would if they were books I just picked up on my own. That said, I have a caveat in my Book Review Policy  that if I feel I am not the right audience for the book, I won't post a review. I try to avoid that by only picking books I genuinely think I will enjoy, but of course I can't always predict that before I read. Also, while book clubs have been a great way to get exposed to books I wouldn't normally read, tastes will differ and every once in a while, I find a book I'm just not willing to finish.
