Top 8 Words I Love to See in a Book Synopsis

What a clever prompt! Words are my métier, but I am having some trouble because there are so many that intrigue me. I'm sure I will think of a ton after I post this.

Happy Top Ten Tuesday!

Top Ten Eight Words I Love to See in a Book Synopsis

1. Jewish--Even for someone who subscribes to the Jewish Book Council newsletters, this is rare enough that it gets a second look from me. Not necessarily a third, but I have found some great books this way.

2. Rabbi--See above. Friday the Rabbi Slept Late caught my eye at a Bookcrossing table and led to me buying and reading most of the series!

3. Wizard--I love spellcasters (and play them exclusively in D&D😛). Wizards especially, but witch, warlock, or sorcerer would also work!

4. Epic--Despite the fact that this is so overused, when it's appropriately used, especially paired with 'fantasy,' I'm often a fan.

5. Boston--Still probably the city I know best, at least at one time, and I'll always give a book that takes place primarily or partially in Boston a second look.

6. Journey--I'm a sucker for a good Hero's Journey. Or 'Adventure.'

7. Gem--I tend to like books described as a 'gem' or 'jewel' OR that involve a literal gem or jewel, so it works either way!

8. Space--Books that take place on spaceships, space stations, or somewhere out there in space consistently pique my interest.

Book Review: The Speed of Clouds by Miriam Seidel

Book Review: The Speed of Clouds by Miriam Seidel *To Be Released from New Door Books on April 10, 2018* Mindy Vogel is haunted by the future. In frequent daydreams, she toggles between her real, wheelchair-bound life and the adventurous life of her fanfic alter ego, SkyLog officer Kat Wanderer. She's haunted by all that Kat can do which she cannot---belong to an organization of comrades, walk, and fall in love---yet. Because at twenty-four, Mindy's future is very much ahead of her, wheelchair notwithstanding. Through Mindy's "SkyLog" fanzine and related emails, Seidel evokes Star Trek fandom around the turn of the millenium, but also creates a new and compelling science fictional universe, similar to what Rainbow Rowell's Fangirl  does for the Harry Potter fandom with "Simon Snow." Mindy is among the pioneers transitioning fandom from print to digital, boldly encountering like-minded individuals from the comfort of her chair behind the monito...

Books On My Fall 2025 To-Read List

It's already mid-fall, so I've already read some of these, but I imagine I'll finish more before the fall is out! I'm reading quite widely these days--I seem to be reading 3-6 books at any given time, because of book clubs, yes, but also mood, format, and availability. Happy Top Ten Tuesday! Books On My Fall 2025 To-Read List An Amateur Witch's Guide to Murder by K. Valentin--I received this ebook for review from LibraryThing, and I've never been quite so pleased with my choices! This was a hilarious ride from the get-go and crammed full of witchy Goth kid oddities and gore--a perfect Halloween read, and hopefully the beginning of a series! A Bridesmaid's Guide to Murder by Abigail Scott--Another ebook I received for review from LibraryThing--and whatever it is, books ending in "Guide to Murder" are killing it for me these days! (Let's not look too deep...) I'm not finished, but I'm loving it so far. Don't Forget to Write by Sara Go...

The Ten Most Recent Additions to My Book Collection

Most of the books I buy these days are ebooks, or books I'm technically "renting" (I guess that's the right term?) on Kindle Unlimited. I also get a few ebooks for review, usually from LibraryThing or directly from authors. Mostly I get books from the library, but I also try to buy/preorder from my favorite authors--sometimes ebooks or sometimes an actual book if I don't have a signed copy from that author yet! Here are the most recent books I've either bought or rented (TBR would be a whole other list!). Happy Top Ten Tuesday over at That Artsy Reader Girl!
