Reading Goals I Still Want to Accomplish in 2023

 I am well on my way or even done with some of my bookish goals for 2023 😁, while having barely completed or not even started others 😧. I would still like to complete these goals this year, so this is a good reminder to ramp up my efforts in the last quarter of 2023.

Reading Goals I Still Want to Accomplish in 2023

  1. Read at least 36 books--I've done this already! I just completed 36 books at the end of September. This is way less than I've read in previous years, but I wanted to go easy on myself since I started a new job in the past year and change. 
  2. Read books I already own, library, or Kindle books.--Yup! I've gotten very good at this--I've read a lot of library books (ex. left), a few books I owned, and the only books I've bought were Kindle deals. 
  3. Read at least two books by women in translation.--Pretty sure I did not do this at all yet...
  4. Read at least 25% books by authors of color.--I have read some books by authors of color this year but I'm sure it's less than 25%. I need to work on this. 

Does anyone have any recommendations to get me to my still unfinished goals by 2024?

A great set of goals! I need to read more of my TBR and library books...

I also wanted to read more translated works. Last year I read a couple. Fish Swimming in Dappled Sunlight by Riku Onda was an interesting read.

I've read 3 translated works this year. One by a woman is The Sunset Years of Agnes Sharp by Leonie Swann. One by a duo is Reykjavik by Ragnar Jonasson and Katrin Jakobsdottir.

Good luck on acomplishing your reading goals! Currently I'm reading Thieves' Gambit and that's written by an author of color and has a black main character.

For women authors translated into English, try Muriel Barbery, Tove Jansson, or Astrid Lindgren.

Books with Single-Word Titles

Happy Top Ten Tuesday over at That Artsy Reader Girl! Books with Single-Word Titles These are all my favorite books that I could think of with one-word titles. A lot of fantasy, a few nonfiction (minus subtitles) and Kindred , whether you consider it scifi or historical fiction. Also two portmanteaus using the word "bitter." Books Read in July 2024

 Pitch It by Evie Blum-- Kind of a weirdly suspenseful romcom but I enjoyed the perspective of a woman working in Silicon Valley,  which I don't see a lot. The business jargon was on point. The author is really talented at writing physicality too; be prepared for a lot of spicy scenes.  My Lady Jane by Cynthia Hand, Bro di Ashton, and Jodi Meadows--I'd wanted to read this for a while (Tudor history nerd, hello!), and I just saw and loved the show on Prime and finally got the book from Kindle Unlimited.  Both are so, so good! Very tongue-in-cheek, intrusive narration, and so many riffs on Shakespeare, Tudor history, and more. Plus it's a surprise fantasy world with people who turn into animals instead of Protestants vs. Catholics--totally brilliant. Can't wait to read the rest!
