Books I Meant to Read in 2023 But Didn't Get To

 When I saw this TTT topic, I wasn't sure how many of these there would be since I don't worry too much about focusing on hot new reads each year. However, if I look back at my seasonal TBR lists from 2023 (excluding winter 2023-2024, since that's technically still not over!), there are some reads I haven't gotten to yet, as well as a lot that I did, or that I've already finished in 2024, like My Goodbye Girl.

Books I Meant to Read in 2023 But Didn't Get To

  1. What You Are Looking For Is In the Library by Michiko Aoyama--I started it, but had to return it to the library before I finished, so waiting to get it again!
  2. Deacon King Kong by James McBride--Still listening to the audiobook; two more discs to go!
  3. Twelve Past Midnight by Tiffany Alexanderson (Fall 2023 TBR)-This one's a review book from LibraryThing. The premise, an ensemble timeloop in a fantasy world sounded interesting, but I didn't get pulled in right away, so I put it aside. Planning to try again. 
  4. Marry Me by Midnight by Felicia Grossman-(Summer 2023 TBR) Sounds like a fun genderbent Cinderella in 19th century London; just haven't gotten around to acquiring or reading this one.
  5. Greywaren by Maggie Stiefvater-(Summer 2023 TBR) I really want to read this last book in the trilogy and it's sitting in my Kindle for the perfect moment.
  6. Romantic Comedy by Curtis Sittenfeld-(Summer 2023 TBR) Also, sitting on my shelf for the prefect moment.
  7. The Blue, Beautiful World by Karen Lord-(Summer 2023 TBR) -Haven't gotten this one yet, but I know I'll enjoy it when I do.
  8. With the Fire on High by Elizabeth Acevedo-I'd almost finished listening to the digital audiobook when it automatically returned. I think I took it out twice and then had trouble getting it again.
  9. The Girl With the Louding Voice by Abi Daré-Sitting on my shelf.
  10. The Secret Lives of Country Gentlemen by KJ Charles-(Summer 2023 TBR) Sitting in my ebooks.

You did a nice job with your list. Honestly, i had similar concerns about this prompt as most of what i read is older stuff.

I've heard lots of great things about WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING FOR IS IN THE LIBRARY. I'm planning to read it at some point, too. I hope you enjoy all these when you get to them!

Cozy/Atmospheric Reads

I love this topic for rejoining Top Ten Tuesday!  I'm trying to lean in as much as possible to the coziness of fall and the upcoming winter season. I've done a lot better with that the last few years. Just because it isn't my favorite doesn't mean I can't enjoy it. Plus, some books I'm reading lately that are apropos for the Halloween atmosphere pervading my neighborhood this month at least.  Cozy/Atmospheric Reads Adenashire, a Cozy Fantasy Book Series by J. Penner--These books are the epitome of cozy fantasy with distinctive characters from a variety of creative fantasy backgrounds, including orcs, fennex, and gargoyles. The Bloodstained Key by Charity Rau--Not so cozy, but stiflingly atmospheric--a Gothic novel set inside a fairytale. The Unfortunate Side Effects of Heartbreak and Magic by Breanne Randall--Really captures the cozy atmosphere of a small town and a trove of magical family secrets. My Reactions to Common Book Buzzwords or Phrases

I'm trying to post but take it easy, so I'm including my reactions to some of the example buzzwords Jana used in the prompt, plus any more I think of. I had some very strong and immediate reactions, probably since these buzzwords are so common, especially in romance and the romantasy that's ultrapopular these days! Happy Top Ten Tuesday! My Reactions to Common Book Buzzwords or Phrases Phrase: "Morally grey characters" My Reaction: NO. Why?: I'm thoroughly sick of this trend, especially because it typically means "morally grey male love interest" which typically actually means "I fell in love with a serial killer BUT HE LOOOOVES ME." No. Don't get me wrong, I can and do enjoy genuinely nuanced characters and I do not expect anyone, much less a fictional character, to be perfect nor do I want them to be, but if I see that phrase, I think Rhysand, or, at best, Christian Grey, and I'm just not into that.
